Tick-Borne Encephalitis Vaccination

Tick-borne Encephalitis vaccination is recommended to anyone who may be travelling to Eastern and Northern Europe and some parts of Eastern Russia and East Asia. It is caused by ticks that are commonly found in dense forested areas which makes this vaccine important if you are planning to hike, camp or spend time outdoors in a high-risk tick area.

What Can I Expect at My Appointment?

A healthcare professional will ask questions such as your previous medical history, where you are staying, activities you will be doing and how long you will be staying abroad. You should get vaccinated at least two months before you travel as you need a minimum of 2 doses to provide you with enough protection. Your second dose will be given 1-3 months after your first, followed by a third and final dose 5-12 months after the second which offers you protection for around 3 years.
