What Can I Expect at My Appointment?

Similarly to the insertion process, you will lie down a bed and your vagina will be held open using a speculum, a smooth, tube-like tool. A doctor will use a special grasping tool and pull the strings of the IUD or IUS to remove the device from your uterus. The removal should only last a few minutes and feel slightly uncomfortable. You may also experience some mild cramping when it is being removed.
