Chickenpox is a common illness, but the vaccine can offer protection to those who have not endured it before. It is also recommended to those who may have a weakened immune system or are at risk of serious illnesses if they get chickenpox. Getting the vaccine after you have been exposed to someone with chicken pox can benefit you by preventing the disease, decreasing the severity of the symptoms and most importantly, protect you if you are exposed to chickenpox again in the future.
What Can I Expect at My Appointment?
The vaccination consists of two doses, after these are done you will not need any further boosters in the future. It is injected into the upper arm and can cause a few side effects such as fatigue, a fever, digestion problems and sometimes, a mild rash that looks like chickenpox. These should subside within a few days.
